What is CSA?

Tigger MelonsCommunity Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs create a direct connection between the farm and the local community.  You become a "member" by purchasing a “Farm Share” - a portion of the farm's harvest  - before the growing season begins.  Your membership entitles you to a box of freshly harvested vegetables, fruits, and herbs every week during the growing season.  CSA programs allow you to learn more about how and where your food is produced and allow farmers the satisfaction of seeing customers enjoy the fruits of their labor.

There are nearly as many variations on the CSA theme as there are CSAs!  In some cases, farms ask (and sometimes require) their members to contribute a few hours of their time to help with farm tasks -- sowing, weeding, harvesting, and packaging.  Some farms add various types of foods to their shares from time to time - honey, meat, flowers, eggs, and jams.  Farm Shares are "customizable" at some farms, where members can choose exactly what they bring home in each week's share, whereas at other farms, each member's share is largely identical.  Our goal is to provide you with the variety and quantity of produce and "extra" items that suits you.  Don't be shy about asking!
